The client
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA)
HIOWAA is a charity that provides emergency transport and care for people in Hampshire and Isle of Wight. The Air Ambulance Critical Care Team is available day and night, 365 days a year, responding to road traffic collisions, sporting accidents, collapses and many other incidents. They save lives every day.
The brief
Saving Claire's life
The charity wanted us to film a patient experience documentary which followed the story of Claire who was treated by HIOWAA. The purpose of the video was to show the real life impact of the work the team do and encourage the audience to donate, as the charity relies on funding. It was apparent early on that had the air ambulance not arrived, Claire wouldn’t be with us today to tell her story.
The project
An emotional story
The narrative for this project was an interesting one as we didn’t want the viewer knowing the outcome of Claire’s story right away. Claire’s brother and the two air ambulance crew are the key narrators at the beginning of the film. We used an eye direct (a piece of equipment that attaches to the front of the camera) which acted as a periscope so when we were interviewing, everyone was looking down the lens but in a natural way. It was important that our team helped everyone feel at ease so that they were comfortable sharing their incredibly emotional story.
Final result
Spreading the word
As well as the documentary, we made different edits of the video for HIOWAA to promote on their social media platforms to help increase engagement and reach as many people as possible. They also promoted the video on their YouTube channel which has been watched over 7,000 times so far.
