Heroes of the south

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance
1,570 emergencies responded to in 2021 alone, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance (HIOWAA) are some of the heroes of the south. They exist to bring immediate, life-saving critical care to patients when they need it most. We were honoured to be asked to create a Christmas appeal to help them raise awareness and vital donations for the charity.

The content

Bringing real stories to life
After brainstorming a few concepts, we contacted a local poet, Joe, to bring to life the stories we’d heard from the air ambulance crew. Due to the nature of their job, we worked around their unpredictable schedule. Housing ourselves at their base, we gathered accompanying shots until the helicopter landed and we could get the footage we needed until they were called out again.

Drone and animation

On the move
Utilising our drone we covered the areas in which HIOWAA operate to show their vast reach and to give an idea of what they see when attending emergencies. To accompany the drone we added animated tags to show an example of where and what the helicopter crew attended. We also added a GoPro to their response vehicle to capture incredible action shots.

The results are in

A huge success
Once the film was approved by HIOWAA, the video was shared widely across an email campaign, social media, on their website and to the press. The video was viewed more than 10,100 times on the charity’s YouTube channel, making it their most successful video on the platform. The total views across all social media platforms was 90,000+ and the launch itself achieved 18 pieces of coverage across 10 publications. The campaign not only succeeded in raising awareness of the charity but helped to raise over £10,000 in donations. An incredible result for an incredible organisation.
